Dave Weldon has been married 32 years to his wife, Nancy. They have two children, Katie, age 24 and David, 13. Dr. Weldon was born on Long Island, New York to Anna and Dave Weldon, Sr., a combat decorated WWII veteran. Dr. Weldon was the second of four children and completed Farmingdale High School in 1971.
Dr. Weldon graduated Phi Beta Kappa from SUNY Stony Brook on Long Island with a Bachelor of Science Degree, receiving high honors. He obtained his MD degree from SUNY Buffalo School of Medicine in 1981. Upon graduation from medical school, he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha National Medical Honor Society after completing a three-year accelerated medical degree.

Military
Dr. Weldon went to medical school on an Army Health Professions Scholarship and did his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Letterman Army Medical Center in San Francisco, California. Upon completion of his Internal Medicine training, he served three years at Winn Army Hospital at Fort Stewart, Georgia. Dr. Weldon served for a total of six years on active duty and eight years in the U.S. Army Reserves and achieved the rank of Major.
Medical
In 1987, Dr. Weldon left active duty in the Army and went into private practice in Florida with Melbourne Internal Medicine Associates (MIMA) http://www.mima.com/. Dr. Weldon was one of the early AIDS health care providers in the area. At that time, MIMA was a 20-physician member group practice. In 2008, Dr. Weldon left Congress and returned to MIMA and has been in practice for 2 years. MIMA now includes over 100 doctors in multiple locations.
Political
In 1990, Dr. Weldon founded the Space Coast Family Forum, a community organization devoted to promoting family friendly policies in the public arena.
In 1994, Dr. Weldon ran successfully for Congress and became part of the first Republican Majority in the U.S. House in 40 years. Dr. Weldon was successfully elected to the U.S. House of Representatives seven times, serving a total of 14 years. He served on multiple committees to include the Science Committee, the Education and Workforce Committee, Banking and Financial Services, Government Reform and Oversight, and the Appropriations Committee.
Dr. Weldon was also a member of the conservative Republican Study Committee and served on the Speaker’s Task Force on Healthcare Reform in his freshman term. Dr. Weldon was a member of numerous caucuses while serving in the U.S. House.
Florida’s District 15 is known as “The Space Coast,” which, during Dr. Weldon’s service in Congress, encompassed Kennedy Space Center and was home to the nation’s Space Shuttle, Patrick Air Force Base and Cape Canaveral Air Station. Dr. Weldon was one of the founding members of the Aerospace Caucus, which worked closely with the Aerospace Industries Association to promote job growth and healthy policies supporting our nation’s aerospace industrial base.
Being a physician, Dr. Weldon became involved with numerous health care policy issues to include efforts to ban human cloning and vaccine safety. Dr. Weldon played a lead role in the successful effort to remove toxic mercury containing preservatives from childhood vaccines. For his work in health care in Congress, Dr. Weldon was awarded the status of Fellow of the American College of Physicians in 2005. He also worked closely with former U.S. Health Secretary Tommy Thompson on President George Bush’s Africa AIDS initiative.
In 2006, Dr. Weldon founded the Israel Allies Caucus in the U.S. House. This caucus was formed to strengthen ties with Israel and promote policies to help establish a safe and secure future for the people of Israel.
Following the creation of the Israel Allies Caucus in the U.S. House, there were several similar caucuses established in parliamentary bodies around the world. In 2007, Dr. Weldon partnered with Member of the Israeli Knesset, Benny Elon, to create the International Israel Allies Caucus Foundation, or IIACF. The IIACF maintains an office Washington, D.C. and Dr. Weldon remains active on its board.

…Hobbies and Interests
While in Congress, Dr. Weldon was a member of The Second Amendments, a bi-partisan rock and country band that performed at several events such as Farm Aid and We-Fest. Along with other band members Thaddeus McCotter, Colin Peterson, Kenny Hulshof and John Porter, they entertained troops in both Iraq and Afghanistan in 2005.
